Barley, PURPLE VALLEY

Barley, PURPLE VALLEY

Another 6-row hulless barley variety! This one has nice purplish grains. The plants are less stiff-looking than in Burbank Black Hulless, waving nicely in the breeze. Talking about breeze, this variety is said to have less lodging issues than its other purple-grained barley friends. This line comes from Oregon.

As with other hulless barley varieties, the seeds that are easy to thresh (extract ) from the dried barley plants and ready to use (sprout, grind or cook like rice) after some winnowing in the breeze or (more straightforwardly) with a fan! (Take my advice and do this cleaning out of doors, whenever possible... ) No dehuller required and all work can get done by hand. Fantastic- and ornamental too, with its long awns. Spring-sown in our climate zone.
