Pollination/breeding Beginner Kit

Best with: Tomatoes, Eggplants. May also work with cucumbers, melons and other similar-size flowers.
Kit includes: 2 reusable lightweight blossom bags (handcrafted locally), 3 plastic tubes for collecting pollen and 6 different color threads.
 
You may need: (your choice) tweezers or toothpicks, a note pad (be it paper or electronic), tape or ribbons or jewelry price tags (to identify your pollen).
 
To keep pure seed from a tomato plant, only use the bag to wrap around the flowers and remove once fruits have started to form. 
When using for a cross, remove anthers carefully with tweezers (see picture) leave only the pistil, before pollen is released (tomato: the flower is not open yet when this is done) bag the flower and pollinate on the next day (same day may also work too).
Eggplants: easier to collect pollen by vibrating the flower (electric toothbrush or low-tech: tuning fork) above the tube. Works well with tomatoes too.
 
The bags are made from lightweight row cover (uv resistant for some time) and stand most ‘normal’ summer conditions, except unusual high wind storms. Close it around the flowers by pulling the thread and holding the bag with the other hand. I use to twist the thread around the main stem just below to secure it in place.
