Barley, BURBANK BLACK HULLESS
Exciting 6-row variety bred by last century's well-known plant breeder Luther Burbank, whose breeding work included stone fruits, grains and vegetables and of course potatoes (Russet Burbank…). 2 to 3 ft high plant with hulless seeds that are easy to thresh (extract ) from the dried barley plants and ready to use (sprout, grind or cook like rice) after some winnowing in the breeze or (more straightforwardly) with a fan! (Take my advice and do this cleaning out of doors, whenever possible... ) No dehuller required and all work can get done by hand. Fantastic- and ornamental too, with its long black awns. Spring-sown in our climate zone.
