Bean, Pole, À COSSE VIOLETTE
Lovely pole bean, stringless purple filet-style pods. This line has gone through some selection in our gardens to separate some off-types before offering it for sale. My initial seeds came from the UK, but its name suggested a French heirloom. Surprise, it is apparently of Italian origin! Said to be the same as Trionfo Violetto, although I will keep the name it had when I acquired the sample. According to some sources, it produces long, slender pods (like mine) or flat ones. That diversity is often present (diversity of names and phenotype (form)) the older an heirloom is and the more it has spread! Purple podded beans tend to become dark green when cooked. Purple flowers. A delight to the eye and taste buds.
